FAQs

  1. Why use a Personal Trainer?
If you have a specific goal or objective the Trainer can help keep you motivated and on-track, adapting exercises or routines to match your own progression.

  2. Can I book just one or two sessions?
Certainly, some people only need reassurance they are doing exercises safely and correctly. It’s also good to get another perspective on a fitness programme and include plenty of variety.

  3. Are there guidelines you adhere to?
Yes, first of all a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ) is completed to ensure you have a level of fitness to complement the objectives you set. Covered in this are questions relating to current physical conditions and whether you are on any medication. Any exercises are then adapted to meet your needs.

  4. How hard do I need to work out?
Always an interesting question !. Through experience and body language I gauge (a) what the person is capable of (b) how motivated they are to achieve their results. I try to get people to work a bit harder than they would work by themselves, but to also understand their limits. Remember if an exercise seems to easy,it usually is and you can work a bit harder.

  5. What is “fitness”?
Not everyone wants to run a marathon or push heavy weights. For some people just being able to do normal daily chores without getting out of breath is enough, or a simple improvement in the range of movement in a joint is good enough. After discussing a persons needs a programme is put together to cater for whatever the client perceives as a level of fitness for them.

  6. How do you measure improvements?
Typically all programmes are recorded therefore it’s easy to look back at past results as measurements of progression. Equally benchmarks are set for the individual to work to outside of PT sessions, this helps establish consistent results.

  7. Do I have to sign a contract or is there any financial commitment?
The only documents that are required are the PARQ and a contract asking you to contact me 24hrs to prior to a PT if you want to cancel the session otherwise the fee is forfeited. In the case of regular clients I waive the fee. Apart from that however many sessions you have is down to you, block booking can be discounted by arrangement.

  8. What if I don’t meet my goals?
Using the SMART objectives this reduces the possibility of this happening as we jointly agree these at the start of a session or programme. I don’t promise results that are unachievable. I lay the foundations for those to be met, but it’s clients contributions that ultimately count.
